Abbottabad:
Officials from National Highway Authority (NHA) and Balakot Tehsil administration announced on Sunday that the road to Naran has been reopened after five months of closure due to heavy snowfall. Events for tourists are expected to be completed within the next three days.
Naran, one of the most frequent tourist attractions in the country, was closed in November last year after heavy snowfall in the area. Local officials said the road had been opened after cutting glaciers blocking Kaghan Highway. Naran is located in the top Kaghan -Dal in the Mansehra district in KP at an altitude of 2,409 meters. According to some estimates, about 1.5 million people visit Naran Valley every year.
Naran is also the gate of Gilgit Hunza in Summers via Babusar Pass. During the winter, the temperature often remains below 0 ° C with heavy snowfall. In the summers, the temperature rarely exceeds 15 ° C with heavy rain. The tourist destination remains very busy in summers when the snow -covered roads are opened. The public movement continues until the fall. In winter, snowfall blocks the roads.
“The Kaghan motorway has been reopened for traffic up to Naran after a five-month closure,” the Mansehra district police officer said on Sunday. “NHA has restored the way for traffic by cutting off large glaciers on Kaghan Highway.”
Balakot Tehsil administration instructed tourists to go to Naran as the weather cleared and the facilities were completed. DPO said events for tourists in Naran would be completed in the next three days.
The NHA officials said the work was underway to open the Kaghan motorway up to the Babusar Top, the entrance to the GB region, which is about 65 kilometers away from Naran.
