“The Double” has not been completed since 2001 despite several tapping attempts since then, but Kyle Larson is looking to add his name in the history books.
The Indy 500 should begin at 1 p.m. 12.45 one on Indianapoli’s engine speedway, five hours and 15 minutes before the green flag comes out in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Coca-Cola 600.
The flight between the two tracks is about an hour and a half, but Larson will brave it.

“The most important thing why I love to run. I like to challenge myself, you learn new cars and all that. And I like to compete in the biggest races in the world. So to do two of them on the same day, it’s pretty cool,” Larson said in a recent interview with Pakinomist Digital.
“For me, I will do it while I’m in my premier. I’m only 32, feel like I’m at the top of our sport, I felt the timing is the right thing for it. I don’t know how long my NASCAR career will last … I think it will be really fun to do a road course, just to experience that kind of sense of cars that have a lot of power and slip around, no power-sting, And also to come to race with guys in their big and see their steps what is capable of what is physical, the physical one there grew up to do and just see the caliber and level they run on because it would be different from what us nascar guys see and feel on a roadway.

How a bond between father and son flourished a two-time indy 500-champion
Five drivers, including Larson, have tried the brag, and some have been able to run both races. However, Tony Stewart, who ended sixth on Indy and third in Coke 600 in 2001, is the only driver who achieved all 1,100 miles. The last person who ran both races is Kurt Busch, who completed the Indy 500 in the sixth of 2014, but engine error in Charlotte cost him the completion of this race.
Larson tried twice last year, but rain delayed the Indy 500, and the same storm prevented him from competing in Charlotte later in the day, despite coming to the field.
“I was having fun last year, it helped me prepare for this year. There’s still very good that came from last year, even though I didn’t get to run both.
For beginners, Larson has a main goal: “Finish all laps.”
“But then you look at where the bar is at,” he continued, mentioning Stewart’s performance. “You are like ‘I will beat it.’ If you can win one of the two it would be good.

“Winning the Indy 500 would be harder, but it can certainly be done at the same time. The fastest car, best driver, doesn’t technically win the race. If you just perform the details, it can best you can and make no mistake, you can have an opportunity to win at the end. If we can just do a good job, the results can take care of themselves and we can have a great day.”
It would be almost impossible to win both, but Larson knows which one he would rather have.
“I’ve won 600, I wanted to take the Indy 500,” he said. “But if I can win one of the two it would be great.”
