National Highway blocked in protest against six channels

As vocal expression of rejection is repeated time and time again to build six new channels on the Indus River, the nationalist parties organized Sindh protests and blocked highways in different parts of the province. Meanwhile, Jay Sindh Mahaz also blocked National Highway in Shaheed Benazirabad District on Sunday and demanded safe improvement by lawyer Aamir Ali Umrani, who has allegedly been exposed to enforcing the disappearance.

The leader of Jay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Sanna Qureshi, led a sit-in-protest at Dera Mour in Kashmore-Kandhkot district at the Sindh-Punjab border. The demonstration suspended the movement of Inter-province traffic for several hours. “No dam, no channel is acceptable by the river Indus,” Qureshi said. “If we are not taken seriously, we are staging a sit-in today and tomorrow it will be somewhere else.”

He complained that the center has already snapped Sindh’s oil, coal and gas with water that was the last important resource left with the province. Qureshi said that lawlessness in the districts of the Larkana and Succur divisions has made the people who are miserable as citizens become unprotected before Dacoits. “After sunset, these districts become non-gang areas.”

He asked people to wake up and raise their voice to get their rights. “Sindh’s people have been shared through tribal button.” Qureshi said he will lead peace missions to visit all tribes bound in StamVendettas.

Separately, Qaumi Awami Tehreeks leader Ayaz Latif Palijo also led a protest mounting in Kashmore-Kandhkot to reject the center’s stubborn decision to move on with Canals’ project. “Don’t make Sindh a barren land during the clothing of some developmental initiative for the country,” he warned.

He accused the federal and provincial governments of suppressing farmers in Sindh by hiring power. He accused Pakistan Peoples Party and its provincial government of withdrawing from defending Sindh’s and its people’s rights.

Chairman JSM Riaz Ali Chandio, who spoke by a sit-in-protest at National Highway in Shaheed Benazirabad district, demanded urgent release of Umrani from those who detained him illegally. “If he is not released in 24 hours, a shutter down -strike would be called in Benazirabad.”
