Nationwide Polio Drive begins today

Islamabad:

The National Emergency Operations Center (Neoc) has announced that the nationwide polioimmunization campaign will begin from Monday (today) over 159 districts in the country.

According to Neoc, more than 45.4 million children under five are administered during the week -long drive under 45.4 million children under five.

In addition to the polio vaccine, children will also receive vitamin A supplement to increase their immunity.

The national campaign will be carried out from 13 to 19 October, while the campaign in southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will be held from 20 to 23 October, Neoc said.

Over 400,000 health workers go door to door to ensure that any eligible child gets the vaccine.

Neoc urged parents to ensure that all children under five are vaccinated against polio and that routine immunization courses for children up to 15 months have been completed on time.

The polio expulsion campaign is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to eliminate the paralyzing disease and protect each child from lifelong disability.

Despite significant progress in recent years, Pakistan is still one of the few countries in the world where polio is still paralyzing children, with health authorities warning that continued vigilance and public cooperation is crucial to stopping transmission.
