The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Water Resources was informed on Thursday that the building work in Naulong Dam in Balochistan should begin next year and the project would be completed until 2031.
Chairman of Khalid Hussain Magsi discussed the committee control of the budgetary proposals from the Ministry of Water Resources relating to the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the financial year 2025-26;
The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the late submission of the brief for members’ review.
Syed Ali Murtza, Water Resources Secretary oriented the Committee for Budget Proposal for Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2024-25. The proposed PSDP 2025-26 outlines key financing priorities for ongoing and new initiatives in water management, irrigation and hydropower production, he said.
The project director of the Naulong Dam informed the committee that the highly expected dam project on the Mula River in Balochistan went on to implementation, which marked a significant milestone in the region’s water and energy infrastructure. Located approx. 395 km from Quetta requires the project 4,282 hectares of land, with a acquisition cost of RS1.95 billion, he said, adding that the Balochistan government has already released RS0.9 billion, and the land collection process has begun after the end of necessary formalities.
The committee was informed that the construction will begin in February 2026.
