Pakistan’s Prime Minister and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has instructed his government to tackle Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) concerns about a controversial channel project that signalizes a willingness to resolve the matter through dialogue.
According to the Prime Minister’s adviser to Inter-Province Coordination, Rana Sanaullah Khan, the directive of Shehbaz Sharif consultation with party leader Nawaz Sharif follows. “The Prime Minister has called for all outstanding problems with PPP to be solved through conversations,” Rana said, emphasizing the government’s obligation to the fair distribution of resources, including water, among provinces
Rana Sanaullah confirmed that PPP is an integral part of the federal government and highlighted the need for responsible communication from all parties who had constitutional offices. “We keep the PPP management high respect,” he said.
He referred to the water decision in 1991 and the IRSA Act of 1992 and assured that these legal framework ensures that no province is deprived of its share of water. “There is a constitutional mechanism in place to prevent any injustice,” he added.
In comments on recent political tensions, Rana warned against politicizing the issue of water distribution. “Such questions must be run at the negotiating table,” he urged. “The strength of provinces is the strength of the federation.”
