NBA News: Oliver Miller Death at 54

Oliver Miller, known as “Big O” during his play days, has died at the age of 54.

Miller was a beef center that helped Arkansas move on to Final Four before playing nine seasons in the NBA.

Miller had fought for brain cancer.

Miller, standing on 6 feet, 9 inches and weighing almost 300 pounds, was a prominent in Arkansas from 1988-92. He average 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds in four seasons, which helped the Naismith Hall of Fame coach Nolan Richardson’s 1989-90 team reach the last four before losing to Duke and serving Southwest Conference Player of the Year in 1991.

He was also part of the Phoenix Suns team that lost the NBA final 1992-93 to Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls.

Tribute poured in from Miller’s former team.

“We are deeply saddened by the adoption of Arkansas legend Oliver Miller,” Arkansas said in a social media post. “A key member of the 1990 Final Four team, a SWC Hall of Famer, a first round of NBA draft elections and a true embodiment of Razorback Spirit. We love you Big O. Our thoughts are with his family.”

Raptors, as he was on the very first list in Toronto, said: “He has a special place in our history as a member of our opening team in 1995 and we are so grateful to all his contributions. We send our deepest compassion to the Miller family.”

Miller was prepared by Phoenix in 1992 with the total election # 22.

He also played in Europe, Continental Basketball Association, United States Basketball League and with Harlem Globetrotters.
