Miami Heat player Terry Rozier is currently under investigation of federal prosecutors over suspicions of an illegal betting scheme, NBA confirmed on Thursday.
Investigators are working to determine if Rozier manipulated his performance in two matches in March 2023, allegedly in conspiracy with Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter.
It’s part of the same probe that led to Lifetime Ban for Porter in July.
Porter’s ban came after a similar study of his performance and “Prop efforts” – efforts where Bettors can choose whether a player will reach a particular statistical standard or not during a game. Last April, NBA banned Life Porter after a league probe found that he revealed confidential information to sporting bettors and betting at stake, even betting on his team to lose.

Porter -The investigation started when the league learned from “licensed sports betting operators and an organization that monitors legal bet markets” on unusual game patterns around Porter’s performance in a game on March 20, 2024 against Sacramento.
The league decided that Porter gave a bettor information about his own health status prior to this game and said that another individual – known to be an NBA Bettor – placed a $ 80,000 effort for Porter not to hit the numbers that Was put before him in parlays through an online sports book. This effort would have won $ 1.1 million.

Authorities believe that some of the people who arranged Porter to resolve his performance in two games last season had interior information that caused them to bet big sums against Rozier a year earlier.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the latest study and noted that Rozier – who played for Hornets on that date, and now plays for Miami Heat – has not been charged with a crime, nor has he been accused of wrongdoing.
The NBA said it was looking at the case at the time and did not find any liga rules were broken.

“In March 2023, NBA was warned of unusual betting activity related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement, first released to the Wall Street Journal and then released to the associated affiliate print on and other business. “The league conducted an investigation and did not find a violation of the NBA rules. We are now aware of an investigation by the US Law Office of the Eastern District in New York related to this case and has cooperated with this investigation.”
The game involving Rozier, in question, was played on March 23, 2023, a matchup between Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans. Rozier played the first 9 minutes, 36 seconds of that game – and not only returned that night, referring to a foot problem, but did not play that season again. Charlotte had eight games left and was not in playoff competition, so it didn’t seem very unusual for Rozier to be shut down for the last matches of the season.
In March 23, Rozier ended with five points, four rebounds and two assists during this opening period – a productive quarter, but well under his usual overall output for a full game.
