If you can’t beat them, make sure they join you?
It seems to be Texas Longhorns’ thinking after they reportedly hired Sean Miller as their next main Basketball trainer.
Miller coached Xavier, the Texas team lost to in their first four matchup to quickly jump from the NCAA tournament, which eventually led to the firing of Rodney Terry.

Texas announced on Sunday that it had moved on from Terry. Austin American-Statesman reported that Miller, the long-standing Arizona head coach who returned to the muskets, the team he led for five seasons before coaching wildcats would take over the program.
Terry had been in place as head coach of Texas since the suspension of Chris Beard during the 2022-23 campaign, where he was eventually fired due to accusation of domestic violence. Prosecutor was eventually placed in this case.

Texas pays Terry $ 5.4 million in a buyout that was part of his five-year contract he signed after making an elite eight races during the 2022-23 season. Longhorns eventually lost to No. 2 Miami just before the last four.
“I am so appreciated over having served the University of Texas and our men’s basketball program for 13 seasons,” Terry said in a statement. “It was a dream for me to be the head coach of Longhorns, and I have been able to live that dream. I would like to thank all our coaches and current and former players who not only helped us win a lot of games, but more importantly this great university represented a first -class way.”
Miller is an enticing rental, and Longhorn’s brass obviously likes what they saw from Xavier, even though it meant Texas jumped out of the NCAA tournament before the first round got started.

Xavier defeated Texas, 86-80, despite Longhorns led at the break in the first four matchup. Longhorns was already a surprising choice as one of the last teams to make it the 68-team bracket after walking 19-15 (6-12 in SEC) of the year.
But Xavier won No. 11 seeds they played for, but they couldn’t get an Cinderella to run after No. 6 Illinois took them down, 86-73, in the first round. The muskets were only down to five points at the break, but the struggling Illini ran away with it eventually.
Miller just finished his third season with Musketeers, which he had a reunion after 12 seasons with wildcats from 2009-21.
Miller was fired in the late 2021 season, which was covered with controversy as an FBI corruption study of College Basketball led to vacated victories for Arizona. Miller was accused of being involved in illegal payments to make sure Star Center Dendre Ayton landed with Arizona instead of Kansas with Bill Self’s program.

Now Nil rules allow a pay-to-play system, but it was strictly prohibited at the time of the investigation.
During his time with Arizona, Miller led Wildcats to seven NCAA tournaments before returning to Xavier in the 2022-23 campaign, then also a performance. After missing the tournament last season, Xavier fought in after walking 22-12 in the year in 2024-25.
