Islamabad:
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry on Friday stated the Senate that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) serves as the central body to coordinate disaster readiness and response across the country.
In response to questions in the upper house’s question, he said NDMA was created under the National Disaster Management Act, 2010, with provincial disaster management authorities operating at their respective provincial levels.
The Minister said NDMA’s primary responsibility includes coordination with federal and international institutions to predict potential disasters such as floods and earthquakes and to ensure timely warnings to reduce loss of life and property.
