NDMA emits 48-hour flood alarm over Punjab

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a 48-hour weather alarm that warned of torrential monsoon rain, pouring pressure on river basins over Pakistan.

Moisture -driven systems derived from both Bengals and Arab Sea Bay are expected to trigger severe rainfall, especially in the upper and central regions of Punjab, which raises the risk of flooding of cities, floods and landslides.

The Ravi River waters face the most immediate threat, with reports indicating a high probability of urban flood and river overflow.

Already at Jassar, Ravi rises to an unusually high level of flood and departs 202,020 CUSSCS. Meanwhile, Shahdara and Head Baloki remain at medium -sized flood levels and raise concerns about nearby communities.

Areas under close monitoring include Narowal, Shahdara and Lahor’s northern suburbs, with vulnerable union councils such as Kot Mahbo, Aziz Colony, Qaiser Town and Faisal Park in the limelight.

In Sheikhupura’s Ferozewala Tehsil, like Faizpur Khu, Burj Attari and Kot Abdul Malik is at increased risk, while Ganesh Pur in Nankana SaBib remains vulnerable. Kasurs Pattoki Tehsil-Inclusive Phool Nagar and Kot Sardar-SO as well as Khanewal’s flood-fought villages such as Ghauspur and Abdul Hakim, are also closely monitored.

Authorities have called on the residents of these areas to prepare emergency with significant things such as drinking water, dry food, medicine and torches, while local administrations have also been told to activate emergency plans and breeding security measures.
