Ndma raises alarm over the swat river surge

Islamabad:

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) released an alarm with a high flood for the SWAT River on Friday after water discharge at the Munda main work rose to 101.205 CUSSCS.

The authority placed the river in the “High Flood” category, causing authorities to maintain increased vigilance over the northern belt.

According to NDMA, the rapid increase in the water level has necessitated urgent precautionary measures, where residents of vulnerable areas are strongly advised to prepare for possible evacuation.

Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned of low -to -medium flooding over multiple barriers in the province and encouraged people living inside river beds to move to safer soil without delay as a preventive step.

A PDMA spokesman said the Indus River is experiencing a medium-level flood at chashma blocking, while low-level flooding persists at Tarbela, Kalabagh and Taunsa.

In the Chenab River, the current has disappeared at Marala Barrage, but rises at the head Khanki, where flooding at low level continues.

The water level also rises in the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala (Kasur) with a discharge of 64,000 CUSERCs, resulting in low-level flooding conditions.

According to the officials, the protective dam on the site has been affected by the wave, which clarifies that only a temporary structure is built to tease the current.

Similarly, the low -level flood continues in Ravi River’s Bein Nullah at Shakargarh, although the power remains stable. No flow has been reported in the big hill -Torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan Division.

The Tarbela Dam is 96% full and the Mangla Dam has reached 67% capacity with water levels registered on 1,546.50 feet and 1,209.35 feet respectively.

PDMA DG called on the public to take all the necessary precautions, stressing that individuals residing in the field of river must immediately move to secure locations and cooperation with the authorities in the event of emergency waiver.
