NDMA warns of heavy rain and potential flooding in multiple regions

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide warning that calls on citizens to take precautions, as moderate to heavy rain is expected in most parts of the country for the next three days.

According to the National Emergency Operations Center (Neoc) operating during NDMA, a three-day weather-impact prospects have been released, predicting widespread rainfall driven by moisture stream from the Arab Sea and Bengal Bay.

The forecast raises concerns about flooding of flash, especially in areas located near the nullah’s and local streams.

Significant increases in river flows are expected in larger rivers, including Indus, Kabul, Jhelum (Mounta upstream) and Chenab.

Key charges such as Tarbela, Guddu, Kalabagh and Chashma are currently experiencing low for medium -sized flood levels.

Meanwhile, the water level at the Taunsa block is expected to increase to medium flood levels below the ongoing wet spell form.

NDMA has also warned of increased risk of flooding of flash in Hill Torrent regions in Dera Ghazi Khan and several districts in Balochistan, including Barkhan, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Sibi, Loralai, Zhob, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran and Panjgur.

Additional vulnerable areas include Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Shangla.

Residents of hilly regions such as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat and Gilgit-Baltistan are advised to remain aware of potential soil and mud lids that can prevent roads and disrupt traffic, according to the National Weather Prognosing Center.
