NEPRA cuts the power tariff with RS1.78 per Unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction of RS1.78 per year. Unit in Electricity Arriff for Consumers nationwide, including Karachi, under FCA) Mechanism for fuel cost adjustment (FCA) to July 2025.

According to a review issued on Tuesday, the adjustment will be reflected in electricity bills for September, providing temporary relief to millions of consumers in the midst of rising inflation and energy costs. “The relief is based on the variation in fuel costs for July and will be reflected in electricity bills for September,” it said.

The regulator’s data showed that the actual national average fuel costs for July amounted to RS8.0903 per year. Kilowatt-time (kWh) compared to a reference management cost of RS9,8758/kWh. This variance led to a reduction of RS1.7856/kWh, which is now transferred to consumers.

The tariff applies to all consumer categories served by K-ELECTRIC (KE) and EX-WAPDA distribution companies, except for lifeline consumers, protected housing users, charging stations for electric vehicle and prepaid meter users on fixed customs plans. “Consumers will see this relief in their September bills, calculated on the basis of their electricity in July,” the message added.

NEPRA has instructed all distribution companies to clearly specify the FCA adjustment of consumer bills. In cases where bills have already been issued in September, the relief will be reflected in the following billing cycle.

The FCA mechanism is part of NEPRA’s routine monthly customs adjustment process designed to customize electricity prices with actual fuel costs incurred during power production. “While implementing this FCA, KE and other distribution companies must comply with all relevant legal decisions,” the regulator warned.
