Islamabad:
Power Division has expressed serious concerns about the seven-year multi-year customs (myt) decision recently issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for K-ELECTRIC, who warned that it could have far-reaching economic and political consequences.
Federal Minister of Power Awai’s Leghari has warned that such decisions could have a negative impact on the confidence of the investment in future myth periods.
In a statement issued on the social media platform ‘X’ on Wednesday, the minister said the ministry has observed some serious concerns regarding Nepras several decisions on K-electric’s licenses for generation, transmission, distribution and supply, adding that these decisions also affect the investment plan for the coming multi-year customs.
“These decisions have significant long -term effects on consumer tariffs and the subsidies of the federal government within a uniform customs regime.” He revealed that the Ministry was planning to review the recently issued decisions in connection with transmission, distribution and supply. Meanwhile, a reconsideration of the previous generation’s customs decision was waiting for Nepra’s attention, despite being submitted back in December 2024. “This delay poses serious financial consequences for the electricity sector and its subsidies.”
In addition, he warned that if certain areas were not treated, they could have a negative impact on consumers and the regulatory environment, which potentially prevented Pakistan’s efforts to encourage private participation in the distribution sector.
