- Netease Games has dismissed staff in one of its Seattle teams
- This included Marvel Rivals -Dirr director Thaddeus Sasser
- The company claims that the cuts were made for “organizational reasons”
Last night, Marvel rivals Developer Netease Games dismissed an unspecified number of employees from his Seattle Design Team.
This included one of the game’s directors, Thaddeus Sasser, who posted about the layoffs on his LinkedIn page. “My stars, talented team just helped deliver an incredibly successful new franchise,” he said.
“… and was just dismissed!” Then he explained his desire to help the affected staff find new jobs and highlight contributions from the former level designer Garry McGee.
The redundancies certainly seem unexpected, in no way thanks to the seemingly massive success with Marvel rivals. It was considered a lot in our review, with praise, which was leveled on its impressive list of different heroes and the overall fun factor. It has been a pillar in the steam diagrams since it was launched back on December 6, 2024.
Netease has commented on the redundancies in a statement to PCGamer and claimed they were done ”to adapt Marvel rivals‘Development team structure for organizational reasons and to optimize the development efficiency of the game.’
It also stated that the most important development team located in China is still “fully required to deliver a unique experience” with “new superhero figures, maps, features and content” on the way.
Netease also made cuts on its other Western studios throughout last year. This included stopping the funding for the newly -founded world’s countless study, the closure of jar with sparks and major redundancies at Visions of Mana Develops Ouka Studios. This may suggest that the company plans to shift its focus more heavily towards its Chinese developers.
