Subtitles and the best streaming services are a match made in heaven: Netflix says that almost half of its visual period in the United States happens with subtitles and captions, and I can confirm that where my children are worried, it is closer to 100%.
It’s great, but Netflix has identified a way to make it more useful to many viewers when watching one of the best Netflix movies or best Netflix shows: Subtitles showing only the spoken dialogue.
The existing and very useful subtitle functions do not disappear. Rather, Netflix just adds an extra option.
How Netflix’s new subtitles work
Currently, the subtitles you get on Netflix are designed for people who are deaf or hearing -haired. And that means the subtitles are for everything – so they tell you if a phone rings or whether there are creepy sounds or if there is an explosion.
Of course, these subtitles stay because they are very important.
But subtitles can also be useful even if you do not have hearing problems: think of the completely incomprehensible trajectory in The dark knight is rising.
Some characters are hard to hear, and some movies ‘and show’ Sound mixtures don’t always talk as loud as some of us want.
Teeth for the subtitles to avoid “what did she say?” Moments are convenient for it, but that means we can get a lot of details we don’t need. Think “(dramatic music playing)” or “(phone rings)”.
From today you see a new option in subtitle menu. It will only be available in You Season 5 today and it is only for the English language opportunities. But it will soon be much more widely available and will also come to other languages.
Now, when you go to subtitles, you see two options for English -language subtitles: English and English (CC). English is clean of the spoken dialog and English (CC) gives you the whole Shebang.
