NEW Connections today (game #883) – the answers
The answers to today’s Connections, game #883, are…
- YELLOW: PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS BELL, DRUM, RALLING, TRIANGLE
- GREEN: SATISFIED AS DEBT CLEAR, PAY, SETTLE, SQUARE
- BLUE: WORDS OF A FAMOUS QUOTE BY CAESAR COME, CONQUER, I, SOW
- PURPLE: LATIN RELATIONS AB, PRO, SINE, SUB
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 2 errors
A little bit of knowledge can get you a long way in Connections, but sometimes it can also get you absolutely nowhere.
I knew that SINE had something to do with angles, so I had a crack at building a group with TRIANGLE – and because I thought they sounded vaguely mathematical – PRO and AB.
After getting “one off” twice, I decided to refocus and after seeing PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS I realized I was barking up the wrong tree.
WORDS OF A FAMOUS QUOTE BY CAESAR had seemed too obvious at the start of the game, but it made the most sense with eight pieces to go before the reveal of the purple group revealed that my “little knowledge” of trigonometry turned out to be zero knowledge of LATIN PREPOSITIONS.
Yesterday’s NEW Connections Answers (Sunday, November 9, Game #882)
- YELLOW: PERSONAL STYLE ITEMS BRUSH, MIRROR, NAIL FILE, TWEEZERS
- GREEN: PACKAGE COMPACT, DENSE, THICK, DENSE
- BLUE: GROUND OVERCHOOSE, MOUSE, NOODLE, REFLECT
- PURPLE: STARTS WITH BIRD HOMOPHONES SKULL, CROWNUT, LUNAR, PUFNSTUF
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different degree of difficulty: green is easy, yellow a little harder, blue often quite tough, and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you technically don’t need to solve the last one, as you’ll be able to answer it by a process of elimination. Also, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little bit of breathing room.
It’s a little more involved than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to let you play tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other puns that can hide the answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
