NEW Connections today (game #897) – the answers
The answers to today’s Connections, game #897, are…
- YELLOW: SMALL KITCHEN UTENSILS BLENDER, MICROWAVE OVEN, RICE COOKER, BRISTER
- GREEN: FUNCTIONS IN A CAR’S CENTER CONSOLE AIR CONDITIONING, CUP HOLDERS, RADIO, SHIFTER
- BLUE: SEEN WHILE GOING THROUGH AIRPORT SECURITY BIN, CARRY-ON, METAL DETECTOR, X-RAY
- PURPLE: ENDS IN COLORS INFRARED, MARIGOLD, STINGROY, ULTRAVIOLET
- My assessment: Hard
- My score: 2 errors
My first mistake today came in thinking that RADIO, MICROWAVE, X-RAY and INFRARED were all connected due to scanning or waves.
When I gave it up, I came close and got a “one away” from the group that became SMALL KITCHEN UTENSILS, but I included the RADIO instead of the RICE COOKER.
Bug fixed, I sailed through to the end and even spotted the words ENDING IN COLORS before I was down to the last four tiles.
Yesterday’s NEW Connections Answers (Sunday, November 23rd, Game #896)

- GREEN: ANIMAL HOME BURROW, THE, LODGE, WARREN
- BLUE: OLIVER STONE MOVIE JFK, NIXON, PLATOON, WALL STREET
- PURPLE: ANOTHER WORD IN THE TITLE OF ABBA HITS GIMME, MIA, QUEEN, TROUPER
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different degree of difficulty: green is easy, yellow a little harder, blue often quite tough, and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you technically don’t need to solve the last one, as you’ll be able to answer it by a process of elimination. Also, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little bit of breathing room.
It’s a little more involved than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to let you play tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other puns that can hide the answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
