After skipping the obvious trickery – canary, Coal, mine – I fell to one of my own representations, thinking that soy, mustard, mayo and lemon would make an excellent salad dressing. Of course it was wrong. I would also add some honey if I had to make it.
Having shades of yellow be the yellow group was a sweet touch. I remember they did the same for Green last year (olives, forest, lime and mint), but I don’t think they’ve done blue or purple yet, so I’ll be looking for them.
If the group felt well known, it could be because yellow shades came up as a theme in threads a few weeks ago, but there we had Goldenrod instead of gold.
The Spanish words seem quite random, and I wonder if I’m missing something special about Ella (She), Gusto (Taste), Mayo (May) and Soy (AM) – a regular sensation with the purple group that usually moves a mile above my head.

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
