New -Connections Today (Play #711) – The answers
The answers to today’s connections, game #711, are …
- Yellow: Fine print Asterisk, catch, condition, strings
- Green: Grades with green skin Elphaba, Grinch, Hulk, Shrek
- Blue: Features in National Mall in DC Capitol, Mall, Obelisk, Pool
- Purple: Famous walking developer Bridge Troll, Mad Hatter, Riddler, Sphinx
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 2 Errors
Not my best day. I immediately thought we had a group about grades with green skin, but only knew three with certainty. When I think that the category could extend beyond the skin, I added riddles to Grinch, Hulk and Shrek because of his green suit.
Using the tried and tested technique to choose something I had never seen or heard of before, I added Elphaba, which I now know is a character from Wicked, which I should have known as I paid good money to see the stage music.
My second, after reflection, was very stupid mistakes to create the features of the National Mall in DC Group with the addition of Sphinx.
In my defense, Cleopatra’s needle is a big obelisk in London, so I thought there might be some nod for old civilization among the US capital. Well, I came there in the end.
How did you do today? Tell me that in the comments below.
Yesterday’s new -connections answer (Wednesday, May 21, Game #710)

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
