New -Connections Today (Play #793) – The answers

The answers to today’s connections, game #793, is …
- Yellow: groups of ten Bowling pins, bids, decade, fingers
- Green: Places with lanes Bowling Alley, Highway, Supermarket, Swimming Pool
- Blue: Landmarks in the center of NYC Bowling Green, Brooklyn Bridge, City Hall, Wall Street
- Purple: things with holes Bowling Ball, Coolander, Golf Course, Sponge
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 2 Errors
I want to be honest, I was pretty impressed with myself when I got groups of ten and then seconds later crushed as it revealed itself to be the yellow group.
The first of my mistakes came when they gathered things with holes. I saw the link, but put Brooklyn Bridge instead of fungus. Which seems ridiculous in afterwards – but I thought of cleaning mushrooms rather than the right thing, plus Brooklyn Bridge has a few holes in it.
For landmarks in the NYC center, a group was wrong together and thought we were searching for placements by Bob Dylan album cover.
There are more shots in New York (FreeWheelin ‘Bob Dylan and Highway 61 revised) But I was far away with Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Highway and City Hall, but it got me “one away” and helps me to consider again.
I hadn’t heard of Bowling Green before (New York’s oldest public park), but it looked like the most logical place name from the options I had left.
Yesterday’s New -Connections Reply (Monday 11 August, Games #792)
- Yellow: Plain Normal, plain, standard, vanilla
- Green: Leave Desert, dump, maroon, string
- Blue: Specifications about consumer packaging Counting, measuring, volume, weight
- Purple: dark ____ Ages, chocolate, horse, fabric
What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
