The answers to today’s connections, game #744, is …
- Yellow: string Firm, stiff, string, hard

- My rating: Easy
- My score: 2 Errors
Although I made a few mistakes here, this was not a particularly difficult connection puzzle compared to some.
If you didn’t know what color each group was in, you wouldn’t necessarily be able to predict which one would be yellow and which purple – nobody was really difficult.
So how did I make two mistakes? Simply because the answers to yellow, strings, overlapped with a few words from other groups. The possible solutions were firm, stiff, hedge and hard-but solid seemed like it could go with the first pair of them, while Stern and Hull could also have been part of a boat-based grouping.
Still, I finally got there.

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
