New -Connections Today (Play #780) – The answers

The answers to today’s connections, game #780, is …
- Yellow: Instructs Coach, direct, guide, train
- Green: means Instrument, medium, organ, vehicle
- Blue: Start with Greek numeric prefixes Dioxide, monorail, tetracycline, triangle
- Purple: Anagrams of musical instruments Shock, bulge, moaning, voila
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 2 Errors
Some days each group could be yellow, today they could all have been purple.
I felt very complicated to start with Greek numeric prefixes – the trigger then nothing else to connect to tetracycline, so I figured it had to do with the start of the word.
Instruct came next – though I initially thought the connection was transport, but then I hit the buffers and was left with eight random words and no noticeable connection between any of them.
All I had was that moaning was an anagram of organ. Then after a few mistakes I saw the others. Completely the fight.
Yesterday’s New -Connections Reply (Tuesday, July 29, Game #779)
- Yellow: Discount Deal, promotion, sale, special
- Green: Irres Bug, nettle, ruffle, steam
- Blue: Poker actions Call, check, fold, raise
- Purple: things you can pump Brakes, fist, gas, iron
What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
