I fell hook, line and sink to today’s trap.
Uncertain about what Cran might be able to refer to, I had one of these moments of recognition that only connections can give you when the clouds of confusion share and suddenly everything becomes clear.
“Cran”, I thought it should be short for cranberries and ah yes, there is straw short for strawberries, blue for blueberries and grater for raspberries.
Then came the other classic connection feelings when, after thinking, you are really wise and found four interconnected words, you find that you are wrong. So wrong actually that you are looking for a “group of four”.
When I retired, I managed to interfere – not that I ever had anything to add, that Cran could be part of a group of birds minus last letter.

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
