Connections reach number 600 with a classic set of humor, grammar, word games and annoying questions about “the fourth word”.
Just as there are 40 different words for “snow” in Finnish, there are dozens to “nose” in English – especially for the larger nozzle, of which Schnozz (derived from the Yiddish word shnoits, to sneaky) is one of the finest.
Of course, with beak, butter and breast in the start net, I immediately thought “chicken” was a link. Meanwhile, trunk could have found themselves on the nose list as well as storage containers.
My fourth word problem today is snob. It is included on a list that includes the connoisseur and expert, which is interesting, as it is usually a word associated with large people who reject things for rogue reasons (often price or reputation). Being classified as those with discerning taste is exactly how a snob would justify itself. Maybe to include scholars, buff or devoted instead would have made things too easy. Or maybe these words aren’t good enough for connections?
How did you do today? Tell me that in the comments below.

What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
