- Apple’s rumor foldable iPhone has been detailed in a new report
- It contains some surprises that relate to the price and touch ID
- It is still probably a few years away from the launch
Like Samsung and Google have produced some of the best collapsible phones in the last few years, but Apple has remained conspicuously absent. This may not be the case long as a new report has put the company’s folded iPhone plans in the way. Look closely and you will find a few surprises.
The testimony comes from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record for Apple Leaks. In the report, KUO outlined its expectations of the device’s starting price, its features and how well it can sell. Here’s Lowdown.
1. An eye -wandering price
Folding phones command a premium price tag and it looks like Apple’s attempts will not be different. KUO estimates that the folding iPhone will sell for “over $ 2,000”, with the price that potentially goes as high as $ 2,500 (about £ 2,000 / AU $ 4,000).
Given the most expensive current Gen-IPhone-IPhone 16 Pro Max starter at $ 1,199 / £ 1,199 / AU $ 2,149, it’s a massive increase in the price of a flagship iPhone. It is also a decent part of what you pay for the top foldable from Samsung and Google, both of whom charge about $ 1,800 for their devices.
Still, this price may not mean anything. Given the iPhone’s top reputation and Apple’s loyal fanbase, KUO believes that the device will “generate a strong replacement demand … provided the quality meets expectations.”
Mass production will apparently begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, and Apple is expected to sell 3.5 million units, Kuo says. Another generation of model is tilted to enter mass production in the second half of 2027 and could sell 20 million units.
2. AI first
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all that is furious at the moment and Apple is coming into the action with its own (albeit defective) Apple Intelligence system. This will be front and in the middle of the folding iPhone, says Kuo, with the device being placed as a “real AI-driven phone.”
This means that it comes with “multimodal functionality and cross-app integration,” says Kuo. “Larger screens [will] Improve the AI experience, ”he thinks,” activates scenarios like chatting with a chatbot about travel plans while watching a full short app at the same time. “
In other words, a truly next general iPhone expects that has been badly needed for several years now.
3. A design of Book style
The folding iPhone will apparently adopt a “Bogel-Design”, according to KUO, with a vertical fold rather than one that crosses the device horizontally. This means that it is likely to be a Galaxy Fold 7 -Rival (or maybe a Galaxy Z Fold 8 alternative on that step).
Of crucial importance it will be fold -free, and the hinge will reportedly “combine stainless steel and titanium alloy while the lining pipe chooses the titanium alloy,” KUO reports.
As for the size, the device apparently comes with a 7.8-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer screen. It will be 9 mm to 9.5 mm thick when folded, the report claims and 4.5 mm to 4.8 mm thick when unfolded.
It would get the iPhone folded (or whatever it is called) marginally thicker than Oppo finds N5, which is 8.93 mm thick when folded. But the camera staple is likely to add a few millimeters to the total thickness anyway.
4. Touch ID returns
When iPhone 16E replaced iPhone SE, the Apple Touch ID phased out in all its iPhones. Or did it? Per. Kuo returns Touch ID in the foldable iPhone. Apparently it will find its way into a side button that sounds reminiscent of the Touch ID button in iPad Air.
Why can this old technique make a comeback when Face ID is more secure? Kuo says “Facial ID can be absent due to thickness and internal space limits.”
5. A setup of double camera
Do you fancy yourself as a photographer? The folding iPhone may not be your first choice in this case, as Kuo thinks it comes with a double-lens camera array.
This will probably be a little less advanced than the triple lens setup you get with the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The Double Lens camera mirrors a previous report on Apple’s foldable iPhone from Leaker
There will probably also be a front -facing camera and Kuo says you can expect “a front facing camera [to be] Available in both folded and unfolded states. “
6. An ultra -thin battery
Kuo quickly touched the folding iPhone’s battery life, which he claims will contain “the same high density battery as the ultra -thin iPhone 17.” It’s probably a referral to the iPhone 17 Air (or whatever it ends up being called), a rumored Super-Slim iPhone intended for launch in September this year.
However, we do not know what kind of battery life you can expect from the folding iPhone. But given Apple’s previous marketing habits, it could still be touted as “battery life on the whole day” despite its slim design.
