- New Research claims that global smartwatch shippings fell in 2024
- The decrease of 7% over 2023 would mark the first time the market has shrunk
- It is claimed that the missing Apple Watch Ultra 3 -Launch and iterative Series 10 can partially blame
A new set of figures for the Global Smartwatch Market claims that the sector shrunk in 2024 years to year, the first time the market has ever fallen.
The figures from Counterpoint Research indicate that global Smartwatch shipments fell by 2024 by 7% over 2023.
While like Samsung and Huawei enjoyed reported growth (35% for the latter, if the numbers are correct), the Apple SAWS shipments of its best Apple watches reportedly fall by approx. 19% year by year, enough to shrink the market as a whole.
Apple is running the seismic shift because it makes up so much of the market. Counterpoint estimates that 25% of smartwatches sent by 2023 were Apple Watches, with that sharing shrunk to only 22% last year.
The reason? Counterpoint claims that the largest driver in decline was a declining North American market disappointed with the iterative Apple Watch series 10 and the missing Apple Watch Ultra 3 that we hope could launch last year.
The numbers are unlikely to be the place. Figure for Counterpoint Research is based on analyst estimates rather than sales data, which Apple never published and sales have been away before Apple. Still, the notion of a disappointing 2024 for the Apple Watch is true and is a plausible reason why the market may have been shrunk last year.
A much better 2025 in store for smartwatches
The Apple Watch Series 10 actually marked quite a refinement over the previous Series 9. It is definitely more comfortable to wear and the screen is much brighter when viewed from an angle.
In my opinion, the lack of Apple Watch Ultra 3 was definitely more a disappointment. Apple’s Ultra 2 got a new Titanium Black Colorway, but the lack of other upgrades was sure to postpone potential new customers, including those who want to upgrade from the original Apple Watch Ultra.
Whether these figures really represent a fall in the smartwatch market, the prospects of 2025 are much better, at least for Apple. The company plans to reveal three new models, including a new, redesigned Apple Watch SE 3, a long -lasting upgrade that has also probably affected the interest in the market.
The Apple Watch series 11 may not be an important design change during the series 10, but it is expected to include detection of high blood pressure that will function in a similar vein as its sleep apnea detection, giving warnings about abnormal readings rather than specific data.
Finally, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 set the set of high blood pressure detection also in tow.
All of these should be revealed at Apple’s usual September event with the iPhone 17.
