The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has confirmed a new case of polio in Hyderabad district in Sindh, which brings the total number of polio cases reported over Pakistan to 27 in 2025. According to Neoc, SINDH has reported seven cases so far this year, highlighting ongoing challenges of eradicating the lurking virus from the province.
“Polio is an incurable disease that can cause lifelong disability,” Neoc said in a statement, calling on parents to make sure their children get polio drops during any vaccination campaign.
The next nationwide polio vaccination drive will be held from 13 to 19 October, with over 400,000 polio workers going door to door to manage oral polio vaccine drops for children under five.
Neoc emphasized that support from parents, societies, teachers, religious leaders and the media is crucial to the success of the polio expulsion campaign.
Despite significant progress in recent years, Pakistan is still one of the few countries in the world where polio is still paralyzing children, with health authorities warning that continued vigilance and public cooperation is crucial to stopping transmission.
