Pakistan’s weather department has predicted widespread rain, thunderstorms and possible hailstorms over several regions in the days leading up to Eidull Fitr.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the wet spell is expected between 25 and 27 March, affecting upper and central areas, with snowfall predicted over mountainous regions.

According to PMD, showers are likely to hit Buner, Dir, Malakand, Swabi, Charsadda, Abbottabad and Peshawar from 25 to 27 March. Other areas including Karak, Lakki Marwat, North and South Waziristan, and Dera Ismail Khan, could also experience rain, hail and snowfall at higher altitude.

Islamabad, the Potohar region, Murree and Galiyat are also expected to receive rainfall and light snowfall between 25 and 27 March. Meanwhile, Central Punjab will see scattered rain showers in the same period.

In Sindh, dust storms are probably March 25 and 26, while parts of Balochistan – including Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Musa Khel, Chaman and Mastung – are expected to receive rain.

MET Office has also warned about thunderstorms and hail, which can damage power lines and solar panels, while landslide is still a risk in hilly areas due to moderate to heavy rain.

PMD has issued a warning about severe hailstorms in Upper Punjab, Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which can damage standing crops, especially wheat. Strong wind and hail can also cause structural damage to the affected areas.

Authorities have advised residents and farmers to take precautionary measures in front of the expected weather disorders.
