Looking for a different day?
A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Monday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Hints and Answers for Monday, October 20 (Game #596).
Strands is the NYT’s latest word game, following the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult though, so read on for my Strands tips.
Want more word-based fun? So check out my NYT Connections today and Quordle Today pages for tips and answers to these games, and Marc’s Wordle Today page for the original viral word game.

NEW Strands today (game #597) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #597, are…
- OPENS
- STAGE
- ENCORE
- HEADING
- GOODS
- SPANGRAM: LIVE CONCERT
- My assessment: Hard
- My score: Perfect
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many non-game words before, and unfortunately that includes words where I should have looked further. If I had, I would have seen that head was HEADLINER, open was OPENER and live was spangram LIVE CONCERT.
Instead, it was STAGE that got me on track to complete the game without resorting to any hints.
MERCHANDISE is an odd inclusion and was definitely the hardest word to spot, but I guess it’s now part of the concert experience to slip out a limited edition t-shirt or cap.
In fact, at recent Oasis shows in London, many people lined up to get in first, not so they could get down at the front, but so they could buy the rarest items and then resell them online.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Monday, October 20, Game #596)
- MEMO
- SIGNATURE
- ROUTING
- NUMBER
- ADDRESS
- AMOUNT
- SPANGRAM: CHECKLIST
