A good theme today and one that was originally a mystery until it revealed itself with hint. A nice in-joke from team strings.
I worked earlier for a British tabloid -Magazine called Take a break, If pages were shared between puzzles and stories in real life – plastic surgery that had gone wrong, love rats cheating people out of their life savings.
It was a great magazine to work on, partly because it was so loved by its readers. So of course I hoped it would appear in today’s “TAKE A ____” search?
Interestingly, it is in the grid, but it did not make the cut to an actual answer.

What is new threads?
Strands is Nyt’s non-new-new-more word games after Wordle and connections. It is now a fully expanded member of Nyt’s Games Stable, which has been running for a year and can be played on the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
