The answers to today’s threads, game #513, is …
- ACCURATE
- STRICT
- PRECISE
- ACCURATE
- Persnickety
- Spanggram: To take pain
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 1 tip
I had pernickety instead of persnickety as one of my non-play words, as this is the British spelling and one that I thought was universal.
It is the longest non-playing word I’ve ever received, but was dotted on the rocks of cultural differences. I’m not peeved, but it’s strange that American grammarists have chosen this particular word to add letters to, rather than pull off. A less hazy.
Either way, this peccadillo aside, here was a list of words that describe everything I am not – or maybe that I am, since I have got such a bee in my bonnet about persnickety.
While we split hair, I can’t help think that strings would say “careful” to the tension, but needed to lose a letter, so I went to take pain, which is essentially the same thing, but less common – a bit like Pernickety. I’m shut up now.
Dear Strings, I think you will find …
