Like many families, my box has a box in a closet filled with decorations that only see the light of day a few times a year, including bunting and banners.
It’s weird how a birthday doesn’t feel like a birthday if we don’t put these out the night before the special day, whether someone holds a party or not – if they are, the balloons will come out too.
Unlike Christmas with the 12th night deadline, there is no official time when you have to take down birthday cards and decorations. For some families, it may be the day after others can leave them to keep the spirit alive.
I think that may be why people in our house have birthdays, but there is also a loose agreement that they also have a birthday week. That’s a nice thing, why not let it last a little?

What is new threads?
Strands is Nyt’s non-new-new-more word games after Wordle and connections. It is now a fully expanded member of Nyt’s Games Stable, which has been running for a year and can be played on the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
