You know that an animal is hard and not to be messed up when a sports team is named after it, and in the bird world it means that raptors that make up today’s puzzle.
There are hundreds of teams all over the world called Eagles, Falcons and Hawks, as are bears, lions and tigers – and not so many prepared to be called “cats” or “house flies”.
It’s all very macho. But maybe I only say this because football/football team I support – Brighton & Hove Albion – called the gulls, a type of bird not so much known for sweeping majestic from heaven to chase prey as it is to steal French fries and pooping on shoulders.

What is new threads?
Strands is Nyt’s new word game after Wordle and Connections. It is now out of beta, so it is a fully developed member of Nyt’s Games Stable and can be played on the new Games site on desktop or mobile.
