The answers to today’s threads, game #397, is …
- CONCRETE
- Hardwood
- Linoleum
- Laminate
- Terrazzo
- Spanggram: Flooring
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: 2 tips
The beautiful thing about threads is that it makes you think of things that you wouldn’t normally think about, like today’s search for floors.
There is a city not far from where I live in London called Staines-they have redirected as Staines-On-Thames because a) They think it sounds more classic than Staines and B) Sacha Baron Cohen based his character Ali G in the city and it’s not something they are proud of.
What they are proud of, though, is that linoleum made in Staines was once world famous and was exported across the globe. What Carrara in southern Tuscanny is that marble, colors in northwestern surrey are for solidified lens seed oil. There is a beautiful statue in the center of two men carrying a roll. A very rare example, at least in the UK, of a statue that honors working people instead of a major on a horse.
Despite my deep love for Lino – and actually concrete (something my dad used to tell me that my head was made of) – I fought with today’s search and needed a few tips to make me go. You can say I was floored.
How did you do today? Tell me that in the comments below.
Yesterday’s new strings answer (Thursday 3rd April, Game #396)
