The Cabinet Department has released the Toshakhana items from March 2023 to 31 December 2024, which revealed a list of prominent figures that received gifts during this period reported local media on Wednesday.
Among the persons stated are Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Minister Maryam Nawaz, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former President Arif Alvi, former CJP Qazi Faez Isa and several other important political and government’s personalities.
Under the message issued, several officials, including former temporary Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, financial affairs Ahad Cheema, Attorney General Azam Nazeer Tarar, Miftah Ismail, Rana Sanaullah, Aftab Tarar Jam Kamal also received gifts.
Other people listed in the message include PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, his sister Asifa Bhutto, Senator Talha Mahmood, spicy Diplomat Tariq Fatemi, Senate President Yousaf Raza Gillani and FBR chairman Rashid Langrial, among others.
In addition, military and security staff such as Deputy Admiral Abdul Samad, President Zardari’s military secretary brigadier Shahryar Munir Hafeez, PM’s Military Secretary General Major Tajdid Mumtaz, PM’s Chief Security Officer Mohammad Imran and former Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch also among those who received gifts.
The message also included names of previous temporary ministers such as Shamshad Akhtar (Finance), Jalil Abbas Jilani (Foreign Affairs), Dr. Umar Saif (IT), Tajat Gohar Ejaz (Trade) and Muhammad Ali (Energi), who were gifted various things during their tenure.
The presented gifts included books, decorative pieces, souvenirs, watches, teapots, blankets, shawls, dagger, bean mats, pens, cups, perfume and handkerchiefs, among others.
Earlier a year and a half, most recipients have deposited their gifts in Toshakhana, and the cabinet department is currently estimating the value of the various gifts received.
It is important to note that in March 2023 the Shehbaz government introduced a new system for managing gifts. According to the new rules, the recipients are allowed to keep gifts worth up to $ 300, while any gift exceeding this value will become Toshakhana’s property.
