- The official trailer to Peacemaker Season 2 has been released
- James Gunn’s next DCU project debuts at the end of August
- Its latest teaser has reinstated a tough fan -debat about Hit Cartoon -tv -Show
The official trailer to Peacemaker Season 2 is finally here-and it is reconsidered a long-standing fan debate about which parts of the show are Canon in DC Universe (DCU).
Published online after its premiere on San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2025, the teaser gives us a much clearer picture about its plot. Before we go into it and the aforementioned fan -debate, see the HBO Max series’ latest trailer below if you haven’t already done so:
Look at
We already knew Peacemaker Season 2 would explore DC Multiverse. In fact, its first trailer John Cena’s Chris Smith/Peacemaker confirmed to travel to an alternative reality using his late father Auggies Quantum Unfolding Chamber (QUC).
The new dimension in which Peace Maker is located is a much more idyllic version of the universe he also occupies. In that, his variant is a famous hero, while Auggie and Chris’ brother who died in Peacemaker’s universe, live and well. It seems that the peacemaker variant that lives in this parallel dimension is in a relationship with Emilia Harcourt that avoided the progress of the peace maker we know (let’s call him Peacemaker 1.0) in the latter universe. So Peacemaker 1.0 is sure to find himself torn between wanting to stay in this alternative universe or return to his own where his real friends are.
We also get a glimpse of other alternative realities in this trailer, including one, where giant skulls spin’s roaming around in a dystopian landscape. Will we visit these worlds in one of the best HBO MAX SHOWS ‘second season? I doubt it, but it may be best for all arachnophobes among you.
Why Fredsmaker Season 2’s new trailer doesn’t definitely respond if it’s cannon in DCU

But back to the fiery online debate that I previously referred to. Before DC Studios Co-Chefe James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired-in late 2022-to reboot DC Comics’ Live-Action Cinematic Universe (ie DCU), Peacemaker Season 1 was officially part of the now closed DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
When Gunn announced the full line-up for DCU Chapter 1, also known as ‘Gods and Monsters’, in January 2023, Peacemaker Season 2 was not mentioned among the projects mentioned. Later that year, however, he revealed Peacemaker 2 Was not only in the works, but would also be part of DCU Chapter 1.
Since then, fans have been discussing whether the events in Peacemaker Season 1 is cannon in DCU. Viewers have also wondered if the 2021s Suicide Squad Film, another DCEU project that Gunn wrote and directed is part of DCU. After all, one of the film’s dangling plot threads, ie. Smith Myrding by Rick Flag Jr, transferred to Peacemaker” s first season. It is further explored in Season 2, with Frank Grillos Rick Flag Sr. trying to chase Smith and seek retaliation for his son’s death.
If he can’t find peace here, he might find it somewhere else. The story of Superman and DCU continues with #peacemaker season 2 on August 21st. Rewatch season 1 and listen to the official @DCPeacemaker podcast now on YouTube. pic.twitter.com/zvbnjufsakJuly 25, 2025
Recently Gunn has tried to tackle Peacemaker‘s canonicity in DCU. Gunn said: “There are certain things from the old universe [the DCEU] that we refer to in Peacemaker Season 2. But until then they are not cannon. Almost everything from season 1 is Canon, but Season 2 will explain everything that is or is not cannon. “
Gunn doubled on these quotes during a chat with Entertainment Weekly on SDCC 2025. So the case closed, right? After all, if someone wants the last word about what’s canon or not, it will be one of DC Studios Co-Ceos.
For many fans, that’s the only proof they need. Nevertheless, I am – and if you look at some online reactions after the launch of Season 2’s latest trailer, others like me – don’t think it’s so clear.
First, Fredser 1.0 travels to DCU from DCEU, or he already exists in DCU and travels to another DC Comics Universe? The latter seems more likely, especially when season 2 continues Peacemaker 1.0’s story from Suicide Squad And Season 1 of his self-tapped TV show.
That said, if he already exists in DCU, how will DCEU’s Justice League a como in the Season 1 final? Yes, Gunn has said their looks Isn’t it Canon in DCU, but then they wouldn’t exist in this universe if Season 1 was part of DCU, so how could they show up in the first place? You can see why some viewers, even included, are confused by the grimness of it all.
At this point, it wouldn’t be better for Gunn and Safran to definitely say what’s cannon? Sure it could spoil some big historical beats in Season 2 so I understand their sad. However, if they do not want to spend all season 2’s press tour answering the same question over and over again, it may be best if the couple confirms which parts of Peacemaker and Suicide Squad is cannon in DCU. It would be a big help when I next update my DC movies in order instructions!
But what do you think? Does it matter what is cannon or not in DCU? Should we be patient and wait for answers once Peacemaker Season 2 arrives on August 21? Or do Gunn and Safran need to fully tackle everything I’ve outlined above? Tell me that in the comments.
