Sailor Tattoo recently appeared in connections, so I was well versed in what I was looking for here.
The topics that came to today’s puzzle are among the most popular, but there are plenty of traditional that didn’t do it cut – among them is the superstition that having a pig tattooed on your left foot and a chicken on the right would avert to be a victim of a shipwreck.
Over time, the meaning of some of these symbols has been lost or not valued by non-sailors. A single swallow, for example, was inked on a seafarer after traveling 5,000 miles from home, two were awarded after reaching 10,000.

Strands is Nyt’s new word game after Wordle and Connections. It is now out of beta, so it is a fully developed member of Nyt’s Games Stable and can be played on the new Games site on desktop or mobile.
