I am writing this from the UK, where we have Mother’s Day earlier this year, but it still didn’t take me long to spot the theme here. Most often it was because I found flowers first, and combined with the theme’s clue ‘Happy …’ it was pretty obvious.
It was more difficult to find the remaining words. Drawings, especially, really surprised me – until I remembered that kids also give their mothers gifts on this day, not just old geezers like me.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never made my mom breakfast on Mother’s Day, but then she’s eating really porridge again in the morning and I don’t think it really works in that regard. “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom – here’s a bowl of heated oats!” Nah, I think she would prefer flowers and hugs.

What is new threads?
Strands is Nyt’s non-new-new-more word games after Wordle and connections. It is now a fully expanded member of Nyt’s Games Stable, which has been running for a year and can be played on the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
