Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi administered Friday to six newly appointed judges at the Supreme Court during a formal ceremony.
The oath that took the ceremony, then the sword of Justice Aamir Farooq, Justice Shafi Siddiqui, Justice Hashim Kakar, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Justice Salahuddin, Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Ad Hoc Judge Justice Hassan.
The event was attended by the Supreme Court judges, the lawyer, senior lawyers, journalists, judges and office carriers from the Supreme Court’s Bar Association and Pakistan wore Council.
Separately, President Asif Ali Zardari will administer ED to IHC’s functioning Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar.
These judges were nominated on Monday in a Legal Commission for Pakistan (JCP) meeting, which was housed by two senior SC judges as well as two members from the opposition party.
The 13-member JCP, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, called to consider the nominations for the Supreme Court’s appointments. According to a statement of the Supreme Court’s web site, the nominations were approved by majority.
The meeting was held in spite of the demands of some judges and a section of the legal fraternity to delay the procedure until appealing against the 26th constitutional amendment was decided and the question of the new IHC anthes list was resolved.
Last week, four Supreme Court’s judges, senior Puisne -turned on Mansoor Ali Shah and Munib Akhtar, at Har Minallah and Ayesha Malik change.
Later, Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ali Zafar, who is a JCP member, was also requested that Chief Justice Afridi delay the appointment of new judges to the Point Court until the question of the seniority of the IHC judges was decided.
At the beginning of the JCP meeting on Monday, justice demanded shah while referring to the judge’s letter, postponing the meeting. His claim was supported by Justice Akhtar as well as Senator Ali Zafar and National Assembly member Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
In the midst of the meeting, the lawyers and the lawsuits faced difficulties when part of the legal brotherhood had called protest against the meeting and new appointments to the point of law. Due to the protest, several roads were closed in the area.
