“I love what @browns have done this season, but if I’m a young QB, I’m not in any way I go to Cleveland. I would pull an Eli Manning if possible,” Sanders wrote in a social media post in March 2018.

Manning had been expected to be the top election in 2004, and chargers had # 1 choice. But the franchise got a reputation that a destination young quarterbacks should avoid. Manning’s agent reportedly told that his client would sit out throughout the season if the team were to draft him. Manning’s family was reportedly involved and quarterback was prepared and traded to New York Giants.

Deion previously declared “It will be an Eli” when explaining how sheds and reigning Heisman Trophy -winner Travis Hunter would handle the draft. He later clarified that he would not try to “orchestrate” where his son fell in this draft.

“No, because it’s not God’s will right now. I want Shedeur to do what he has consistently done – excels against all odds,” said the Colorado football coach in March during a performance at “The Skip Bayless Show.”

“I like the hated. I like naysaying. I like the ignorance because it makes us feel better at what we do. It gives him another chip on his shoulder.”

“He wants to be a top 5 choice. Where your son goes? Lololol I got time today. Lololol,” Sanders wrote on May 1, 2024. The post now has a note that says, “Shedur Sanders wasn’t a top 5 draft of election.”

At that time, Sanders responded to a comment that mentioned Colorado’s 2023 record-father-son-duo’s first year in Boulder. “Tell you son Stop action as if he the coldest out here, and then set a 4-8 season,” the first post read.

Sanders ended the 2024 season with 4,134 passing yards. He joins a crowded quarterback room in Cleveland containing Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.

Watson then made the Peace Signed his Achilles-sen in January. The latest setback is expected to largely sideline the three-time pro bowler throughout the 2025 season, though Watson pushed back towards that schedule. Flacco was reunited with Browns earlier this month after spending the 2024 season with Indianapolis Colts. Cleveland acquired Pickett in a trade with Eagles in March.

Browns went on to Sanders in the third round on Friday and instead used No. 94 choices at Gabriel.
