NFL -Handel: 49ers sends star receiver Deebo Samuel to commanders: Report

San Francisco 49ers has reportedly reached an agreement on the first major trade in the NFL season. According to ESPN, the All-Pro Deebo Samuel will go east and play for the Washington commanders in 2025.

The 49s are expected to receive a draft of the fifth round in exchange for the Star Wide receiver according to the report. Earlier this week at the NFL Scouting Combine, 49ers General Manager John Lynch confirmed reports that Samuel requested a trade. Lynch said the team was planning to “honor” the request.

“He has asked for a new start and I think we will honor it,” Lynch said Wednesday.

Samuel spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the 49s after the team chose him in the second round of 2019 NFL Draft.

He earned first-team all-pro-duties and a Pro Bowl election after he finished the 2021 season with a career high 1,405 receiving yards. Samuel and Niners reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension after this standout season.

Samuel missed two games last season, but he experienced a noticeable dropoff in production when he was on the football field. He ended the year with 670 receiving yards and 136 rushing yards when San Francisco stumbled to a disappointing 6-11 record.

Samuel spoke to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan about coming up with an output of the team during the season and later had a conversation with Lynch.

“Then he came up and talked to me and we had a very honest and honest conversation,” Lynch said. “He told us his reasons. I asked him to sit on it, sleep on it, and we would do the same. We did, and we told him he could talk to people.”

Like any other trade that agrees now, this Agreement cannot be processed until the new league begins on March 12. As part of the agreement, Washington takes on the rest of Samuel’s contract and pays its full $ 17.55 million salary for the 2025 season, Sources of Schover tell.
