NFL lets team decide Charlie Kirk tribute for upcoming Sunday games

The NFL released a statement on Friday that dealt with a recent tribute to Charlie Kirk ahead of her latest game, and said teams will be left to make their own decisions about whether to follow this Sunday.

Thursday evening’s game between Green Bay Packers and the Washington commanders contained a moment of silence in honor of Kirk before kick-off.

“Last night’s moment was the league’s decision. It’s up to the clubs for this Sunday matches,” reads the league’s statement per. More reports.

The statement further treated the tribute’s context and compared it to other moments of silence after tragedies.

“There have been moments after school shoots or an attack on a worship house such as Life Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018. There have also been moments after major international events such as Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023 and weather-related incidents such as major hurricanes and fires,” the declaration continued.

“This is in addition to honoring them in the NFL family from tribute to recently passed players or staff, or a player like Damar Hamlin in 2023. “MLB asked all the clubs to follow the direction of the White House Presidential Proclamation and Fly Flags on half staff in their ballparks,” a MLB spokesman told Pakinomist Digital.

NHL, NBA and WNBA have not made any official statements relating to Kirk’s assault. Pakinomist Digital has reached all three leagues to ask if they would but have not received an answer.
