The Indianapolis Colts All-Pro-Guard Quenton Nelson was elected No. 6 collected in the NFL draft in 2018 and has been through all ups and downs when it comes to the quarterback position.

Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger, Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew, Anthony Richardson and Joe Flacco each started at least one game since Nelson entered the league.

So when Colts announced on Tuesday that Daniel Jones would be that week 1 -starter over Richardson, who was supposed to be the future of the franchise, fans could understand Nelson’s frustration.

“I want to say that. I think I would be lying if I said it wasn’t,” Nelson said when asked if the lack of consistency had been frustrating to him via the athletic. “You look around the league and just see the consistency of having Patrick Mahomes or a quarterback behind you who has been the franchisee this year and year and years, and to build this chemistry with that quarterback year after year is something that is an advantage for when it comes to O-Line games. So to answer your question, yes.”

Luck’s sudden pension before the beginning of the 2019 season seemed to leave the Colts without a plan at quarterback. The franchise has used veterans to connect the hole, but nothing really worked.

Colts has been doing the end game twice since 2018. Richardson, Ehlinger and Jacob Eason were among the team’s quarterback draft election. The team chose the former Notre Women’s stand out Riley Leonard in the sixth round this year, but he was not a true opportunity to start in week 1 this season.

“When we signed Daniel, we knew this would be a big decision for (head coach Shane Steichen) and Front Office to take,” Nelson added. “And nothing really changes for us. We still come to work, do our jobs, still supporting both guys. But it’s nothing new for us.”
