NFL NEWS: Emmitt Smith calls Cowboys, Hatses Eagles’ recent success

Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith is “sick” of watching its Dallas Cowboys’ Super Bowl drought.

Philadelphia Eagles, winning two Super Bowls, including February, only adds the frustration.

“I’m tired of it,” Smith told Sports Radio 94wip. “We’ve allowed others to nitpick on the star and make fun of the star and that’s what’s happening. Now suddenly in the last 20 years, [Eagles] Win two Super Bowls and they think they are the best thing on the planet. And everywhere I go, I hear ‘Go Birds’.

“I’m tired of hearing ‘go birds’. I always ask, ‘Where are you going?’ You still got a long way to go to get to us.

Smith talked about the five Super Bowl titles that Dallas has in his trophy case, three of which won in 1993, 1994 and 1996, while Smith led Cowboys’ Backfield.

It is true that cowboys have more titles than Eagles that have two. But these two have come in the last seven years. Eagles won their first in 2018 before defeating Kansas City Chiefs in February.

Eagles are due to having another big season, provided they are running up a few holes in defense. Saquon Barkley, Jalen hurts, and AJ Brown leads a potent violation.

Cowboys’ Dak Prescott says he could ‘determine’ play ‘today’ when he recoveres from hamstring injury

But Smith feels like three decades not to make it back to the NFC championship, so much less super bowl, used to be unthinkable.

“That part abounds me,” he said of Eagles fans who spotted him about Cowboys’ drought. “It abounds me because in my heart I really think our organization should immediately fight for an NFC championship and even a super bowl at least once or twice each decade because each team reuses every decade.

“So that we are not there in the last 30 years is a crying shame.”

Cowboys looked like a team intended to make an end game in three equal 12-5 seasons from 2021-23. However, Dak Prescott & Co. lost Two Wild-Card games in 2021 and 2023, and they fell in the divisional round of San Francisco 49ers in 2022.

Cowboys haven’t reached it past the divisional round since they won it all in 1996, a season when Dallas went 12-4 and Smith rushed in 1,204 yards with 12 touchdowns.

Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones has been firm by saying that he will do what he can to make the guard plan or coaching staff better. But he has been criticized this season for his hiring by Brian Schottenheimer as the team’s new head coach after letting Mike McCarthy go.

McCarthy had been leading the cowboys since the 2020 campaign. But after a 7-10 season when Prescott’s campaign ended early due to a hamstring injury, they parted ways.

Cowboys have not been too aggressive in free agency and all eyes will be at the 2025 NFL draft next week when they choose 12. Total in the first round.
