Las Vegas Raiders has their new quarterback and that is any head coach Pete Carroll is familiar with.
Geno Smith has been traded by Seattle Seahawks to Raiders in exchange for a 2025 third round draft, according to several reports.
Las Vegas was always expected to add a quarterback this offseason after releasing Gardner Minshew and having quarterback problems for the past few seasons with Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell in the mixture.

Instead of signing a free agent or waiting for the 2025 NFL draft, Raiders signed a blockbuster deal with Seahawks, a team that was apparently looking to shake its own list to land the veteran signal call.
Raiders, which have the sixth overall choice in this year’s draft, can still take a quarterback.
Smith has only one year left on his contract, and ESPN reports that trade was carried out without an extension in place, which means Smith would become a free agent in 2026.

While the deal has not yet become official, the Raiders Star Defensive End Maxx Crosby, which just became the highest paid non-quarter in the NFL story with a new expansion in Las Vegas, shared its thoughts on the news.
There is also a reunion in “Sin City” as the new head coach Pete Carroll and Smith come back together.
When Smith joined the Seahawks in 2020, Carroll was in his 11th season leading Seattle. Carroll monitored Smith’s career -changing campaign in 2022 when he was a pro bowler threw for a career high 4,282 yards with 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The season cemented Smith’s place as the team’s starting quarterback and he has kept that role over the past two seasons. However, Carroll was released after the 2023 season and was out of coaching in 2024.
The 73-year-old was brought back to the NFL by Raiders.
Seahawks, a team that released veteran recipient Tyler Lockett and has DK Metcalf requesting a trade, seems to tear things down by letting their franchise -quarterback go.
Seahawks will immediately be a challenger for free agent -quarterbacks like Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers and others searching for a new team.

Smith led Seahawks to his best record in regular season since he was appointed starts and went 10-7 in 2024. Despite these efforts, with Mike MacDonald as the team’s new head coach, Seahawks missed the end game.
Despite a roller coaster ride, Smith resets his career mound in passing yards, threw at 4,320, also a franchise post. He threw after 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
Despite only an playoffs in Seattle as a starter-a loss in the Wild-Card Round in the 2022-Has Smith, he has proven that he can get the job done in coupling moments. He led Seahawks to four game-winning drives, and it ties him with Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes with nine in the last two seasons.
Smith and Carroll hope he can drop this interception number on the way into 2025. It was the third most in the NFL last season.

MacDonald consistently supported Smith despite questions about his future with the franchise, including last month when he said, “Geno’s Our Quarterback. I don’t understand the conversation. It’s pretty obvious that this guy is a heck for a quarterback.”
But a shocking trade has gone down and changes both franchises on their way into the new league year, which starts March 12, when free agents are officially allowed to sign with teams they have spoken with in the legal manipulation period beginning March 10.
