Gronkowski responded to his podcast with Julian Edelman.
“Was he serious and asked for LT’s number? Yes, you were a high draft election, but LT is an absolute legend,” said New England Patriots legend of the “Dudes on Dudes” podcast. “The best thing to do it, one of the best defenders of all time, and let me tell you brother, just like, you have to prove yourself. It’s crazy just to ask for LT’s number and I’m glad LT closes him like that.”
Edelman asked Gronkowski what Bill Belichick would tell Carter if he asked to carry No. 56. Belichick was Giants’ defensive coordinator when Taylor caused destruction to oppose offenses.
Gronkowski was launched in an epic Belichick impression.

“‘No, no friend. There is an LT and you are not lt. You are not even close to being a LT. So what about you just get f — out of my office and get in your playbook because you haven’t done S — yet. And now you get # 62 just to be an A-hole,'” said Gronkowski.
After turning out on Taylor and Simms’ jersey numbers, Carter made it clear that it’s just good enough for him to have his name on the back of a Giants jersey.

Last season, the team was non-retired Ray Flaherty No. 1 for wide receiver Malik Nabers, who wore No. 9 through college. Flaherty’s number pension was the first in professional football history. Flaherty’s family gave Giants permission to non-pension on the number of Nabers, who carried it well. Nabers set like a rookie franchise record for most receptions in a season with 109.
