Houston Texans, who runs back Joe Mixon, won’t be on the field in the first four games of the season.
The Texans do not activate Mixon from the list of non-football damage before 1 p.m. 16 ET-AFTER Tuesday, making him unjustified to play the first four matches.
“We will officially move RB Joe Mixon from the active/non-football damage list to the list of reserve/non-football damage,” says X. “Players placed on the list of reserve/non-football damage can start practicing and playing after the club’s fourth match in the regular season. We will give further updates at a fitting time.”

Mixon has been dealing with an ankle injury he suffered over the season.
The 29-year-old has a solid first season with Houston in 2024, where he rushed in 1,016 meters with 11 rushing touchdowns. He earned himself the pro bowl honors for his efforts.

But with a potential absence in the cards to the Texans, they were proactive to get another veteran with good previous production in the building if this situation came up.
Nick Chubb was signed after his seven years in a Cleveland Browns uniform. Chubb, who will be 30 in December, played only eight games last season and rushed in 332 yards with three touchdowns on 102 attempts.

Chubb suffered a cruel leg injury in 2023 in just his second game of the season, which forced a long recovery. Before that, he came from a campaign in 2022, his fourth straight pro bowl season, talking 1,525 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns for Cleveland.
The Texans also looked at the potential future of the position as they drafted Woody Marks out of the USC back in April. Marks was a pick in the fourth round that ran in 1,133 yards on 198 attempts with nine rushing scores as well as 321 receiving yards of 47 catches.

Houston is likely to rely on these two to pick up the limp that Mixon has left behind, which they also hope can return after they missed four games to start the year.
