Several NFL rules changes announced on Tuesday are expected to change the way games are played in the fall.
Last year, NFL owners approved a drastic change of kickoff. In this upcoming season, teams will be further incentive to avoid touchbacks.
If a ball does not land in the return zone, a new rule approved by NFL tea-owners means a touchback will result in the ball being placed on the 35-yard line.
Rich McKay, chairman of the NFL Competition Committee and CEO of Atlanta Falcons, said the league is projecting that the change of kickoff rule would result in a significant increase in kicking returns in the future.
